Doing research on this was positively horrible. I am experiencing so much cognitive dissonance right now.
[Cognitive Dissonance:anxiety that results from simultaneously holding contradictory or otherwise incompatible attitudes, beliefs, or the like, as when one likes a person but disapproves strongly of one of his or her habits.]
I think everyone already knows that nail polish is quite toxic. To your health and to the environment (which really is just circular) during the making, while you’re using it and when you’re done with it. As a consumer you have the power to make decisions the affect each of these steps. But if you’re anything like me, you’re a nail polish addict and asking you to give up nail polish…So! here’s some things you can consider:
1. get soy based nail polish remover (in Edmonton stores I know Quo has an earth friendly remover).
2. use water based nail polishes
3. use 3 free nail polishes ( and also non animal testing)
4. dispose of nail polish and removers properly (Disposing in Canada; disposing in Edmonton)
With the more and more awareness into being more responsible to the environment I think that there will be more and more brands at better prices to meet these demands.
I will be creating a new section for “Green Brands” that will hopefully give you a better idea about which brands are green (or not) by sharing reviews from myself and others.
